Tips for Successful Myspace Marketing

So you want to use Myspace as a marketing tool… here are some basic tactics and implementations that I found to be successful in marketing on MySpace.
* Speak to the demographic. The most important thing you’ve got to realize about MySpace is the demographic that is present. MySpace has a very strong urban presence on their site, recognize this and tailor your campaign to fit.
* Build a presence. To be successful on MySpace, you must build a presence. Every one thing that you do, must be seen by at least ten people. If not, you waste time, lose virulence and most importantly, lose your company’s presence. Some examples would be posting bulletins, commenting on a profile with a large audience and creating branded widgets or some form of integration for your clients’ profile.
* Stay active. If you want your profile and site to be seen on MySpace, you have to stay active. Let’s be honest, MySpace is bombarded with advertisements, spam, and self-promotion, so it’s very hard to stand out. Build a strong “friend” base that would have a use for your product or service, actively update your status, comment, post bulletins, export your blog and create a profile picture that stands out, this will show up on every action you do.
* Keep it personal. Add photos of yourself and your team. Start two-way conversations. Talk with the people as you’d email a new friend. Say hi, get to know them, and they’ll want to get to know you. Don’t try to sell, sell, sell, simply focus on building a relationship.
* Simplicity is bliss. You don’t need a big, fancy, information-stacked MySpace page to be successful. Create a page that loads quickly, organizes information efficiently and is designed with simplicity in mind. Most people have 5 second attention spans at best (myself included), keep this in mind and design a page that allows the viewer to quickly skim your profile and understand exactly what you’re offering.
